• Epson Scanner: A new Scanner application for some Epson scanners

• Entrance Fixed the problem of no-login to some users has experienced when try to login on entrance and don't enter like a wrong password
• NTFS: Better support of NTFS partitions (yes, again). Warning: This is (still) experimental, if you have any problems with your NTFS partitions or any other partition (not dangerous, just not recognized, mounted, detected, etc), report it immediately, we are near the next stable release!
• Applications: All applications renamed and re-ordered to be more intuitive for the end-user
• File Manager: We returned to Thunar again, Pcmanfm does not seem to be very stable for now. All the mimetypes of Thunar are better configured also
• Scite File editor has a very ugly bug which breaks files, do not use it. We have moved to cream. Although not as beautiful but still very powerful, it uses a large number of VIM features, but in real graphical mode (not mixed like gvim)

• DVD autolauncher: IF the DVD autolauncher (oxine application) did not work on your computer in previous versions, it works now.
• Swiss keyboards: Now in the keyboard configurator in Elpanel, you can set your swiss keyboard to french and german variants
• XkbVariant Value of xorg is implemented in the keyboard configurator now. If you know of other languages that require this value to be set to work well, send an email to Thanatermesis to request it, BEFORE the next stable release of Elive.
• Debian ETCH, we have moved to it instead of still using the testing repositories. More info about this change in this post
• IPW3945 Supported
• AMSN now supports webcams on MacBook computers. Especially in the version of Elive for MacBooks which will be possibly available soon (with driver and firmware loaded automagically), thanks to KaKaRoTo-KS, the project admin of aMsn also has written the feature 'connected via remote desktop' (elpanel) for a MacBook laptop.
• News reader: Automatic reader of Elive News now included.
• Resolution 1440x900 Added

• CDrom ejects when closing the liveCD system
• Bad Things: E16 does not work on this version of Elive, you need to update the package of e16 for this (apt-get update && apt-get install e16)

• Enlightenment: Disabled the flip desktops when mouse is at screen edge feature by default because it confuses the less-experienced users, you can enable it from the enlightenment configuration menu (e16 and e17).
• Hotkeys: A lot of hotkeys were added for multimedia keyboards. This does not mean that all the keyboards use the same standard of keys but a lot more of the multimedia keyboards are recognized now. If a hotkey does not launch the correct program, you can just fix it or add a new one in the Enlightenment configuration.
• 7z: Elive now supports .7z (7zip) compressed files, in other words... open it directly :).
• GtkPod: GtkPod added again and with better looking icons thanks to roxville.
• DV Camera: Permission enabled to use kino with your cam-recorder for a normal user.
• Gparted: Bug fixed: Some users had gparted hang due to the module floppy, that problem is fixed.
• MacOsX Partitions (HFS+): First implementation of support for MacOsX partitions (only read mode, because the write mode is dangerous ), for hard disk partitions and hotpluged medias in HFS+.
• Bluetooth: Supported (and possibly IRDA) with applications on the menus, testers required
• Special Resolutions / Laptops: Better support of exotic resolutions like 1280x800 especially for Intel graphic cards based laptops. WARNING, this is a very experimental feature, if the resolution does not work well for you in this version of Elive, please make a report to Thanatermesis
• Fonts! a set of 20 misc TTF fonts has been added to Elive by default for the user to play with and use on the themes and look'n'feel.
• aMsn: Updated to 0.97 (dev) and configured, with extra plugins and skins, improved look, fonts anti-aliased enabled and configured with the improved look, a lot better webcam support, more features, the envy of your windows friends.
• GTK Icons Theme In the GTK configurator of Elpanel, you now have an icons theme selector, Thanks LinuxNIT for coding this nice application.
• File Manager Pcmanfm replaces Thunar, a lot lighter and faster, simple and intuitive, bookmarks featured and tabbed (like on firefox, 'control + T' for open a tab).
• Autolaunchers: New changes and features in the autolaunchers system:
• Incorrect mounts: Now, if the device is not loaded correctly the file manager will not launch in the wrong mount point.
• iPod Added support, mounted in /media/ipod and autolaunching gtkpod to syncronize, after you close it, the iPod is "ejected" so you can un-plug safely.
• NTFS: Hotplugable NTFS devices supported (like an external disk with NTFS partitions, or a usb stick in NTFS format).
• Usb sticks: Fixed the problem of the very slow speed in transfer of archives.
• Firefox:
  • Now firefox downloads by default to the directory Downloads/firefox of your home (before you needed to configure that)
  • Enabled the feature of the Horizontal Scroll
  • The backspace key works now to go Back/Forward on the webpages

• Windows: Fixed mount points created on /mnt/windows_X in installed systems.
• IRC: Channel #elive-fun removed, just #elive is good enough.
• Mplayer: If you have a VESA driver for your graphical system, you can now use full screen function in mplayer (right click on the video to select fullscreen).
• Night look: The old background has been replaced by a new animated one, cool and dark with a very nice little effect of ripples like this video, very nice for systems that use dual or more monitors.

• os-prober: Now os-prober (the recognizer of other systems on your computer to add it to the boot menu selector), recognizes your Windows partitions correctly and recognizes Elive like 'Elive' and not like a Debian system.
• Installer: New installer implemented (version 3.2), with better code, more features and all of the old bugs have been fixed.
• Select manual partitions when the installer asks you for your desired partitions, you can enter it manually now, even ones not included on the list
• JFS support: You have a new FileSystem of choice, JFS, a great filesystem that many users love.
• Extra Help: Now you have a extra help in the installer, special for the non-experienced users explaining how to partition better the hard disk etc... Translators needed here
• Windows: Your Windows partitions are now recognized on /mnt like windows_c, windows_d, etc... instead of hda, hdb, etc...
• Anti War: Section 'Anti War' of the bookmarks of Elive removed due to misc reasons

• Gimp, bug fixed: Some people had gimp not launching and freezing on the step xsane, this bug is definitively fixed
• Installer, bug fixed: Memtest and graphical grub working for the people who have a separate /boot partition
• Cinelerra updated: With some fixes and new hotkeys added (up/down - left/right in compositor/viewer), list of hotkeys
• Burners: Fixed the problem of trying to make an image of DVDs (maybe CDs too)
• Audio CDs: Fixed the problem in the autolauncher that the popup only showed some Audio type CDs
• Webcams: When you plug in a webcam, a webcam viewer is launched with special effects!
• NTFS: On the earlier dev. release, new and good things are implemented for NTFS, but these are development versions and are for testing, some users find that sometimes the NTFS partitions are not mounted, this problem is solved and perfectly implemented now

• Amsn: Version 0.96 with fonts aliased!
• Generating Xorg, bug fixed: If the earlier dev. version of Elive freezes on this step, it is due to a NTFS partition, you need to thank bill gates for its good work in the obfuscation of things like NTFS. Elive recommends to not use crappy systems or systems that break others. Thanks bouba for help to trace the problem and find the evil
• Window$ users: It is the moment to make some things better on Elive concerning this, the windows users are lucky right now:
• NTFS: After a lot of problems that NTFS has given to Elive, including frozen boots, Elive has changed to the driver ntfs-3g. A lot of work is needed to adapt this one to the system and make it compatible with other elements. Right now, on Elive you can Read and Write in NTFS partitions from your user. Also fixed the problem of the charsets in the files of the NTFS partitions, and finally, your Window$ system is detected and added on the boot menu selector (grub). Remember, if you want to mount manually a ntfs partition, use -t ntfs-3g in options of mount, instead of ntfs
• VFAT / FAT32: Now, you don't need to search in google for how to write on your windows partitions from your users. Elive gives you permission to write on it from any user by default.
• Installer Features: If you have broken the grub of your MBR thanks to windows, the installer autodetects it and ask you to recover the one from your Elive system instead of installing again. So, if you want to recover the grub for any reason, just launch the installer from root like: eliveinstaller recover my grub please
• Graphical Grub: Ooooh yes!, the much awaited and wanted graphical grub, but this is not the standard graphical grub in 640x400 with 14 colors, this one is in 800x600 with a lot more colors and with animations and events, enjoy!

• Packages updated: All the package updates set to day
• Firefox 2: Now called iceweasel is fully implemented, remember that thunderbird is now called icedove too
• Flash 9: The first stable version of Flash 9 is released, enjoy it directly on your Elive

• 2.6.18 kernel with special optimizations for better work:


• CK patches: Those patches make the priority of and the memory between process work much better.
• 1000 Hz: Better for desktop usage, better reply of the applications
  
• Realtime usage: This is especially good for musical compositors
• Low Latency mode: Applications don't have lag if you load your system with many processes.
• Kqemu added: The kernel accelerator module for qemu is added in Elive by default thanks to the permission of the author

Elive Revolution rl2 (0.6)

• Deliver error: Some people can't boot the series 0.5 of Elive due to a hardware/driver of the cdrom, the bug is reported here, on this version is very possible that the bug is fixed, we need testers :), please reply about that on the same bug reported if you have this problem before

• Icedove is the new name for Thunderbird, the complete transition on Elive to his configurations, files, launchers etc... is complete
• Big updates Same as in every release, the packages are updated from Debian, some of the important updates are: cdrecord, cdda2wav, dvd+rw-tools, nfs-common, openoffice, udev
• Czech selection on the boot menu fixed
• Kernel and drivers all updated, new versions, some more drivers, all built with the actual gcc of debian, kernel switch from 2.6.18 to 2.6.18.2
• Note: This kernel is optimized right now for 686 architecture and not for 386, one of the Elive users has a problem with it not fully closing the power when shutingdown the computer, if you are also affected by this problem, please comment it on his report. If you have also another kind of problem with this new kernel, please report it


• Flash 9 New version of his Beta version updated. This version fix some bugs found how problems in the audios and videos
• Wireless bcm43xx First try the implementation of this driver, if you have it and it doesn't work, please report the bug to http://bugs.thanatermesis.org, if you also have a wifi card that doesn't work, please request the feature (of course adding all the details how the link of the linux driver, his licence if is posible, etc...
• ATI: driver updated and some little things fixed

• Flash 9 ! The Beta version of the future flash 9 is included. You can now enter the newest flash sites faster and with less cpu eating!
• Xorg 7.1 Update from Xorg 7.0 to 7.1
• Intel Wireless Firmware Updates for the ipw2x00 models of Wireless cards. Please try it.
• Torus trooper, Amazing Game made by Kenta Cho, with a retro-futuristic style. This game is actually on your Elive system by default! You can look at a nice video of it (original here). You get pure adrenaline with this game and its better than caffeine to wake you up! Play on the extreme levels if you can.
• Transmission, a small basic bittorrent client. It has been added to Elive's default programs.
• E16 fonts Fixed problem of chars on the e16 menus and messages. Now you can correctly see the special chars with accents in both themes/looks.
• E16 sounds Helpful sounds added to the 'Elive look' of E16 (a nice girl voice explaining the available options). These sounds are also on the Night Theme but with a lot more audio effects.
• JAVA was again added to the development versions. (without openoffice2 on these versions we have space for it)
• Evidence is beautiful but it has not been maintained for a long time. We can have it available if it continues working but it will no longer be in the dock. Thunar has replaced it on the dock. It is a stable and easy to use file manager. Of course, this is better for the end-user.
• Thunar The media-tags and archiver plugins have been added to Elive.
• Gaim Updated to the version 2

• Kernel 2.6.18 With better Wireless support from the kernel and automatic set of SMP mode, this means to if you have a computer with more than 1 CPU, you don't need to use more now a diferent kernel
• 3º Generation of Installer This installer is cleaner internally with a better installation and a special fine-tune of your system adapting all the packages with debconf after the system installed, here exist 3 modes: Automatic, Manual, and Expert
• Enlightenment 16.8.3 Release New Stable release of Enlightenment 16, version 16.8.3, with features enabled directly for xcomposite, zoom, sound in themes, xinerama, localisation and randr (needs an upgrade of configurations not included on this release)
• Cinelerra 2.1 New version of Cinelerra, everytime better

Bugs fixed:

• bootsplash You don't see any more the image of a broken bootsplash when you shutdown the computer
• crappy NTFS can't boot Elive If you have a NTFS partition maybe the LiveCD can't boot, this is fixed now

Elive Revolution (0.5)

• ATI - FGLRX Working again with 3d acceleration !
• More 3d card support: More graphic cards with 3d acceleration are supported on this version. For example, some voodoo, radeon, intel, trident, etc... but we have needed to remove java by default to add this support, because the size of the iso is too big, but of course you can recover java with a simple apt-get install java
• Languages: You can switch your languages now on the fly for your desktop and system (Thanks for the feature on e16, Kim!)
• Graphical launch guaranteed: If the system fails to auto-detect you monitor's refresh rates during the boot process, then you can choose from several options. For example, scanning your disk to find another configuration or selecting your refresh rates from a list of monitors to guarantee you a graphical launch
• Gmplayer default configurations added, and a different look to match the one you selected during the boot process
• Openoffice 2 with the look of the GTK theme your using
• Some little things which had been added, have now been removed (news on the destkop and 3d toy), maybe this is just for me since they make a lot of noise during all the tests
• Icons set for Thunar and configuration for his mime-types to launch the correct applications
• Streamtuner mini-bug fixed
• Autoraises disabled by default from both e16 and e17
• A lot of new hot-keys added on e17 to work fast, with the "windows" + a normal key you can launch your most used applications, the 80 % of the keys are set, launching the email client, firefox, the file-manager, mixer, calculator... etc, or also increase/decrease volume, of course you can change it for your own needs if you like
• Entrance: E17 set to default login and different icon for E16
• Autoset of XV or X11 video output for mplayer depending on which graphical configuration you have
• New bookmarks added, and a new section with disturbing videos, things we need to NOT ignore, after watching the first, you can't find the words for it, please share these videos
• Updated Blender 2.42a and Yafray 0.0.9 with his lot of new features requested by the movie Elephants Dream, 6 months of development since his last release
• PCI Identifier's updated from the primary distribution site, this means... a lot more and better hardware auto-detections :)
• Audio manager: A very nice manager of audio where you can configure your card if it is not autodetected automatically, and if you have a hard audio card that only reproduces one sound source at the a time, with this system you can watch your videos, play games, play music, and also watch videos from youtube with the sounds playing at the same time

• New LiveCD mode system: Elive has moved from Morphix to DSS, the new generation for the LiveCd's, a pure and clean system, unionfs featured and using the real init scripts of the system to boot the LiveCD in the same mode as a normal system installed on the hard disk. The reason for this change not is because Morphix is bad, all the contrary, Morphix is a very good system and base for the LiveCD's, but Elive look's more like a distro than a LiveCD and this is the reason for this change. DSS is a system made by Nomed

• New Features on the installer
• If you have a old Elive system installed with the /home in a diferent partition, it is autodetected and the installation looks more like an upgrade of the system than a clean installation, saving basic configurations of the system, all your users, passwords, logins, and configurations, and all his files. If you don't have the /home in a separed partition... is time to install with it ;)
• XFS support for root partition (/), of course using external /boot partition, it ask directly, fully featured
• /boot separated partition added on the list of extra partitions


• Xorg 7 with ati and nvidia updated
• 2 Looks You can use 2 totally diferents looks for your Elive system, a light default of Elive, and adark better for your eyes. We recommend to try both before installing Elive
• e17 Lucax theme a very nice and eyecandy theme for e17 made by Duvelr, used for the Night look of Elive
• Very nice look for firefox, making a pleasure to browse the net
• CD/DVD Burner added bonfire, with previews of videos, audio, and images
• File Manager XFE changed to Thunar
• Elive works now in a new system of elive-skel, you can select the night look or the default elive look in the boot of the LiveCD system, and it is remembered for your installation
• Introductory interactive tutorial to Enlightenment hot-keys on e16, a basic stuff to give you 5 minutes for work after 5 times more faster

Bugs fixed:

• streamtuner: Fixed the error messages of python
• Boot menu, no keyboard: Some users have a USB keyboard where it is not possible to select his options on the boot menu, maybe is fixed, waiting testers...

Bad things:

• Not exactly bad, but the version of E17 is still the version from 2006-04-20, the reason is because of the development of his famous shelf, better to wait until this is totally finished and implemented to E17. In the meantime Elive is releasing his stable version of 0.5, this version of E17 is a very delicately selected version with the result of a really stable E17 for your daily work ;)

Elive 0.4.2

• All the Bugs listed on the 'Bugs Section' are fixed thanks to the bugs reports of the users on the IRC channel
  
• ATI works again with the fglrx driver.
• We have now some support for SATA hard disks included on the installer.
• We have also a new feature on Elpanel to configure your terminal.

Bad things:

• SATA is in experimental support on the version 0.4.2, some persons install Elive on SATA.
  
• We would also like to remind you that E17 is in heavy developement. Actually, it is quite stable but not everything works perfectly. If you have any problems (in e17), first try the same thing on e16 and you may understand the problem better. (actually on e17, your cpu can start working at full speed or you may have problems playing videos).
• INTEL graphic cards don't have 3d acceleration and it is possible that they won't work. If you want to use the LiveCD mode on the Intel cards chipset (driver i810), you need to use vesa for this, set it in the boot parameters, (xmodule=vesa). This problem is totally fixed after the installation (different kernel).
